　　標準機柜的結構比較簡單，主要包括基本框架、內部支撐系統、布線系統、通風系統。19寸標準機柜外型有寬度、高度、深度三個常規指標。雖然對于19寸面板設備安裝寬度為465.1mm，但機柜的物理寬度常見的產品為600mm和800mm兩種。高度一般從0.7M-2.4M，根據柜內設備的多少和統一格調而定，通常廠商可以定制特殊的高度，常見的成品19寸機柜高度為1.6M和2M。機柜的深度一般從400mm-800mm，根據柜內設備的尺寸而定，通常廠商也可以定制特殊深度的產品，常見的成品19寸機柜深度為500mm、600mm、800mm。19寸標準機柜內設備安裝所占高度用一個特殊單位"U"表示，1U=44.45mm。使用19寸標準機柜的設備面板一般都是按nU的規格制造。對于一些非標準設備，大多可以通過附加適配檔板裝入19寸機箱并固定。
